EEE 701 - not connecting to Wifi [ASUS Eee PC 701 Surf Back To School Offer - 158485]

Hi, more help needed please.

I cannot for the life of me get the eee to connect to Wifi (it's the Linux version), I've looked around the internet and it seems a common problem.

Please can you offer a way to connect, otherwise I fear I will have to send it back to Expansys as without internet connectivity, it's not fit for purpose.

Have you tried changing channels on the router?

And different encryption levels?

I've tried changing from the channel it was set to (11) to another (tried 5).  've tried WPA, WEP and (against my better judgement) unsecure.  I've changed the WPA pass key to letters only (rather than a combination of letters and numbers).  I've tried re-creating the connection from scratch.  I've changed the mode from "Auto" to "infrastructure" as has been suggested else-where. All to no avail.

 No matter what I try, it hangs at "pending" and looking at the log shows various stuff finishing with:

 QUOTE

No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.

run-parts --verbose /etc/network/if-up.d 

END QUOTE. 

Unless I can find a solution soon I can't see any option other than returning it, which is far from ideal.

Netgear DG834G. 

Haven't another to try I'm afraid, but if it helps, I have succesfully connected Lenovo laptop (XP), Nokia  e65, N78, Windows mobile phones (x2), brother printer, possibly more, to the router over time.

Tried changing to static IP it connected to the router but not to the internet,  then there was a suggestion in the forum you linked to to use a cable connection and check for updates which I did,

It said to update the bios, which I did, and now it has crashed completely, with the error "The BIOS is too old, or not compatible with the current motherboar hardware"

Help. 

Is that on the eeepc?

What version firmware is the Netgear running.

That's on the eee, I can't do anything with it, cos it's on the error boot screen.

The router's firmware is v4.01.06. 

You should be able to restore the EEEPC, by pressing F9 when booting the unit. 

That will return it to factory settings.

Do you know which version your 834 is?

Okay, that's restored it (f9) scary for a moment!

The 834 is DG834G v3 

Might be worth upgrading the router firmware. 

Make sure you backup the setting before you start.
